General Questions:
What is the Feldenkrais® Method?
The Feldenkrais® Method is a form of somatic education that uses gentle movement and directed attention to improve movement and enhance human functioning. It is not a treatment or exercise program but a way to learn about yourself through movement.
How does the Feldenkrais® Method work?
The method works by increasing your awareness of your body and its movements. This heightened awareness stimulates the brain to create new neural pathways, leading to improved movement patterns and overall function. This process is known as neuroplasticity.
Do I have to think about how I move in order to continue feeling better?
There is no need to consciously focus on your movement as you go about your day. Neuroplasticity - ability of the brain to rewire itself to improve your movement(and other habits) operates at an unconscious level. One a new, more effective way of movement emerges, it will replace the old, less effective way, without you having to think about it.
Who can benefit from the Feldenkrais Method?
People of any age can benefit from the Feldenkrais Method, because it takes advantage of the intelligence of human brain and the nervous system, which can be accessed throughout lifespan. In my practice I’ve worked with clients ranging from babies with developmental delays and motor difficulties to older adults recovering from stroke and people of various ages who were dealing with various physical discomforts such as back pain, limited range of motion, repetitive strain, poor balance and coordination.

What are Awareness Through Movement (ATM) classes?
ATM classes are group sessions where a teacher guides participants through a series of gentle movements while lying, sitting, or standing. The focus is on exploring movements in a way that increases body awareness and naturally leads to improvement. The movements that are used during class are simple functional movements such as rolling head or tilting pelvis while lying down. No prior knowledge required in order to benefit from the class.
What are Functional Integration (FI) lessons?
FI lessons are one-on-one sessions in which Feldenkrais practitioner uses gentle touch and small, gentle movements to provide feedback to the client’s nervous system. This feedback helps create lasting improvements at an unconscious level - release unnecessary tension, improve posture, balance, and coordination .
Can I benefit from the Feldenkrais Method if I have severe pain or movement limitations?

Neuroplasticity is the brain's ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections. The Feldenkrais Method leverages neuroplasticity by creating conditions that support creation of new, more effective, movement habits and improving overall function by providing feedback through gentle touch and subtle movement.

Increasing awareness leads to natural change at an unconscious level - after a session a client feels that they are lighter on their feet, familiar movement feels simpler, because habitual tension has been released. Once this shift happens, there is no need to hold on to it, newly found ease and freedom of movement will integrate naturally in all the ways a person moves in their day life.
