Certified Feldenkrais® Practitioner: Igor Shteynberg
Hi, I’m Igor Shteynberg, a certified Feldenkrais® practitioner
Over the past decade, I’ve had the privilege of helping people improve physical and emotional wellbeing through gentle and effective practice of the Feldenkrais® Method. The work is subtle, yet it results in profound shifts not just in how we move, but in how we feel and respond to the world around us.
In my practice, I have helped clients with a wide range of issues including: developmental delays, cerebral palsy, various motor difficulties, chronic pain, repetitive strain, stroke recovery, scoliosis, kyphosis. My work has been both extensive and deeply rewarding, and every session brings new insights for my clients and myself. I look forward to continuing this journey, sharing what I’ve learned, and helping each person lead happier, more fulfilling lives.
My Journey to the Feldenkrais® Method
When I started out, I wasn’t planning on becoming a Feldenkrais® practitioner. Actually, I’ve never heard of this work. My first career was in software development. Exciting and engaging at first, overtime it became less and less fulfilling, until I finally realized that spending days at a desk, facing screens was not for me. I knew I needed a change, but did not know what the next step should be.
Outside of work, I was passionate about movement—swimming, martial arts(Aikido, Systema, Tai-Chi), and dance (contact improvisation). I stumbled upon the Feldenkrais® Method, while looking for a way to deal with a chronic pain caused by a martial arts injury. And this discovery has changed my life in ways I hadn’t expected.
Starting with my very first experience with the Feldenkrais® Method, I was amazed by how small, subtle movements could release pain, improve my flexibility, and even make everyday actions feel lighter and easier. Unlike anything I had practiced before, Feldenkrais® sessions were a nice break from trying to fix my posture, stretch, or build muscle. It worked with my body, guiding me to find ease from within. I was fascinated not only by the physical benefits but also by the mental clarity and sense of calm it brought. It felt like more than just a method for moving better; it was a practice that truly transformed my way of being in my own body.
My curiosity only grew from there, leading me to enroll in the Feldenkrais® Professional Training Program in New York City in 2008. There, I had the chance to study under Sheryl Field, a practitioner who had trained directly with Moshe Feldenkrais, the founder of the method. In 2011 I’ve graduated from the training and began my private practice. For the last 8 years I’ve also been fortunate to work under Sheryl Field’s supervision at The Field Center – a non-profit dedicated to helping children with special needs using the Feldenkrais® method.
To this day I continue to be fascinated by the intelligence of the human nervous system and the way my clients’ lives are enriched and transformed.
For me, Feldenkrais® practice is not just a job; it is a way to help people by sharing the beautiful practice that I came to love—a practice that has enriched my life tremendously. It continues to help me discover new possibilities and get more in touch with who I truly am.
